Well hello there! Welcome to the blog for When I Come To Die, a brand spanking new play opening as part of the LCT3 series at the Duke on 42nd Street on February 10th. I'm Anika, the assistant director on the play, and I'll be writing some blog entries here to give you the inside scoop on the happenings involved in getting a new play up on its feet.
Since this is the very first entry, I thought it would be a good idea to give some background on the play. Written by Nathan Louis Jackson, who was at Lincoln Center Theater last with his play Broke-ology. When I Come to Die is the story of Damon Robinson, a death row inmate who struggles to understand why he survived his lethal injection. Thomas Kail, director ofBroke-ology and In The Heights, is directing, and Chris Chalk (who appeared to great acclaim in the recent revival of Fences) leads the cast as Damon, with David Patrick Kelly as James 'Roach' Teagle, Neal Huff as Father Adrian Crouse, Amanda Mason Warren as Chantel Robinson, and Michael Balderamma as Officer Cooper. It is, to put it simply, a great group, and going to rehearsal every day is very fun. I look forward to sharing some of it with you!
