You may have noticed an unusual credit in ON THE LEVEE's marquee - "Art by Kara Walker." As an art-geek who came of age in the '90s, when Kara first exploded onto the scene, I really can't believe I'm writing this sentence. But here it is: visual artist Kara Walker will be making a series of shadow play films for ON THE LEVEE, which will be projected onto the set, color the world of the Mississippi River Delta in 1927, and frame the play's exploration of historical memory.
What can we say about an icon? Best to get out of the way, and let the artist and the art speak for itself.
